Why participate in A Better World Running race?

We are offering a friendly, fun racing atmosphere in Southern California.  There are no hidden motives, everything is straight forward.  We offer the pure essentials of racing.  Benefits of participating in one of our races include:

  

  • Medals for all registered participants!

  • Free photos!  We pride ourselves in taking 1000-2000 photos per race with usually 2 photographers.  One of the photographers is professional.  Check out our facebook page to see his work -- https://www.facebook.com/ABetterWorldRunning

  • Awesome swag!  We have a variety of goodies (snacks, beverages, personal care product samples) when you finish!  Tote bags are usually included so you can carry your swag home with you.  

  • Affordable costs!  We believe in keeping costs low so everyone can enjoy the experience of participating in a race, achieving personal goals, and making new friends in the process!  Our costs are lower than almost all other races.  We also offer a variety of ways to save even more including:​

  • Spectacular views when running by the beach, or in a beautiful park 

 

Can I volunteer?

Yes, we would love volunteers to help with our runs. Please email us at abetterworldrunning@yahoo.com for more information.  All volunteers can run with us for free!

Are there group discounts?

Yes email us for more information on groups with 5 or more people for the discount - abetterworldrunning@yahoo.com.

 

Local running clubs including LA RoadRunners, LA Leggers, AREC, TRH, ARC, and any other running club members/board members can email us for more information on discounts -- abetterworldrunning@yahoo.com

 

Are there any other discounts?

For regular particpants - every 5th race is free!  Keep track of your races and email us before the 5th one.

 

Can children participate?

Yes!  For all participants under the age of 18 we require the waiver to be signed by a guardian. This can be done with day of or mail in registration using the mail in registration form.

 

What is the cancellation or refund policy?

We do not give refunds.  Instead you can transfer your entry to another race date, or transfer to a friend or family member if emailing us ahead of time.  A one time transfer only please.  

 

Is there day of run registration?

Yes, we accept same day registration if the run is not full.  It is an additional $5 for race day registration.  When the run is full and registration is closed

it will be noted on the website.

 

Are walkers allowed?

Yes, we have a lot of walkers participate in the events. We encourage people to run or walk their way to better health and to meet their goals!

 

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are strictly prohibited on the Long Beach bike path. For the safety of the dog, participants on the course, and all other pedestrians and cyclists in ALL locations, we do not encourage dogs to participate in the race.  These are all open courses shared with the public, so we must be mindful of others.

 

Will run times be posted on the website?

Yes, all times will be posted usually within the day.  We are very adamant about posting results as quickly as possible after the event.

 

Will there be a photographer at the runs?

We will try to have a photographer take pictures at each run however there may be times where this is not possible, but we will do our best.  All photos will be available for free on our Facebook page.  We think photos should be shared for free.

 

Are there awards?

Everyone who participates is a winner.  All participants receive a medal when finishing.  Some races will have top 3 medals for each gender and distance.  A few of the larger races such as in Van Nuys or Fountain Valley will have age group medals.  Those details will be on the individual race page.  Must be present during the race to pick up any awards.  Awards will not be mailed.

 

Are there time limits?

None for the 5k, 10k, 15k.  For the half marathon if there is no marathon that day, approximately 3-3.5 hours.  An early start is always an option.  For the marathon, any longer than 5.5 hours, please email us for early start option as well.

 

Can I change distance after registering?

Yes.  We try to accommodate our participants with their requests.  During a run, if a participant wants to increase or decrease their distance, just ask and we will most likely confirm the change.

 

 

What is offered at aid stations?

Generally for the half marathon, marathon, and ultramarathon events we will offer water, Gatorade, fruit (oranges, bananas), granola bars, and Gu gels.  We also have electrolyte capsules such as Hammer Endurolytes at the aid stations and everyone is welcome to leave a drop bag.

Can I have someone pace me during a run?

Yes, pacers are more than welcome at any time.

 

Are strollers allowed?

Yes, you can run or walk with a stroller on the path.  We just ask you to be mindful of cyclists and others on the path.
